Bài A Closer Look 2 thuộc Unit 11 – “Electronic Devices” tập trung vào ngữ pháp trọng tâm: Cấu trúc suggest / advise / recommend + V-ing hoặc mệnh đề với should. Đây là cấu trúc dùng để đề xuất, khuyên bảo hoặc giới thiệu điều gì đó cho người khác, rất phổ biến trong giao tiếp hàng ngày.
I. Lý thuyết ngữ pháp
Suggest / Advise / Recommend + V-ing hoặc mệnh đề với should
Lý thuyết SGK (Remember!):
After the verbs suggest, advise, and recommend we can use V-ing or a clause with should to report someone’s ideas about what someone else should do, or what they should do themselves.
(Sau các động từ suggest, advise và recommend, chúng ta có thể dùng V-ing hoặc mệnh đề với should để tường thuật ý kiến của ai đó về điều người khác nên làm, hoặc điều họ nên tự làm.)
Hai cấu trúc chính
Cấu trúc 1:
suggest / advise / recommend + V-ing
Cấu trúc 2:
suggest / advise / recommend + (that) + sb + (should) + bare infinitive
Ví dụ trong SGK:
- My sister suggested buying a new laptop.
- They recommended (that) he (should) give up writing.

Lưu ý quan trọng
- Sau suggest / advise / recommend + V-ing: không có chủ ngữ, chỉ dùng V-ing trực tiếp.
- Sau suggest / advise / recommend + that + sb + should: động từ sau should là bare infinitive (nguyên thể không “to”).
- Từ “that” và “should” đều có thể lược bỏ mà câu vẫn đúng ngữ pháp.
- Phủ định: suggest / advise / recommend + not + V-ing hoặc + that + sb + should not + V

Task 1: Choose the correct answer A, B, C, or D
(Chọn đáp án đúng)
Câu 1: The sales assistant suggested that Tom _______ the portable laptop.
A. should buy B. will buy C. buys D. bought
Phân tích:
- Cấu trúc: suggested that Tom ___ → dùng cấu trúc suggest + that + sb + (should) + bare infinitive
- Sau “that + Tom” cần should + bare infinitive hoặc chỉ bare infinitive.
- Đáp án A: should buy → đúng cấu trúc.
- Đáp án B (will buy), C (buys), D (bought): sai cấu trúc.
Đáp án: A (should buy)
Câu 2: My smartphone broke down last week, and Mary recommended _______ it to the repair centre.
A. I will bring B. I bringing C. I bring D. me bring
Phân tích:
- Cấu trúc: recommended ___ → có thể dùng V-ing hoặc that + sb + should + V
- Không có “that” trước chỗ trống → không dùng cấu trúc “that + sb + should”.
- Cần tìm cấu trúc có đại từ và V-ing hoặc V.
- Đáp án B: I bringing → sai (không có cấu trúc “recommend + sb + V-ing”)
- Đáp án C: I bring → sai (thiếu “should” hoặc “that”)
Lưu ý: Trong trường hợp này, cấu trúc đúng thực ra là recommend + V-ing (bringing) nhưng không có đáp án đó. Xem lại: câu đầy đủ phải là recommended bringing it to the repair centre (dùng V-ing, không có chủ ngữ). Tuy nhiên trong đáp án đề thi, đáp án C: I bring không đúng; đáp án đúng là C – I bring theo cấu trúc ngầm hiểu là recommended that I bring (lược “that” và “should”). Dựa theo giáo án xác nhận đáp án là C.

Phân tích:
- Cấu trúc: recommended ___ không có “that” → dùng V-ing trực tiếp.
- Đáp án B: buying → đúng cấu trúc recommend + V-ing.
- Đáp án A (to buy) và C (to buying): sai (không dùng “to” + V-ing sau recommend).
- Đáp án D (buy): bare infinitive, không dùng trực tiếp sau recommend mà không có “that + sb + should”.
Đáp án: B (buying)
Câu 4: I suggest that you _______ the directions carefully before assembling the computer.
A. should read B. would read C. will read D. could read
Phân tích:
- Cấu trúc: suggest that you ___ → dùng suggest + that + sb + (should) + bare infinitive
- Đáp án A: should read → đúng cấu trúc.
- Đáp án B (would read), C (will read), D (could read): sai cấu trúc.

Phân tích:
- Cấu trúc: advises ___ không có “that” → dùng V-ing trực tiếp.
- Đáp án D: taking → đúng cấu trúc advise + V-ing.
- Đáp án A (to take): sai (không dùng “to + V” sau advise trong cấu trúc này).
- Đáp án B (took): quá khứ đơn, sai.
- Đáp án C (take): bare infinitive, không dùng trực tiếp.

- Sửa: don’t waste → not waste hoặc should not waste
Lỗi sai: B (don’t waste) → Sửa: not waste / should not waste
Câu 2: I advise (A) to try a new workout (B) routine to (C) keep things (C) interesting.
- Phân tích: advise ___ không có “that” → phải dùng V-ing
- to try sai vì không dùng “to + V” sau advise trong cấu trúc này.
- Sửa: to try → trying
Lỗi sai: A (to try) → Sửa: trying
Câu 3: Her parents recommend (A) that she (B) studies harder (C) so that she can get (D) into a good university.
- Phân tích: recommend that she ___ → phải dùng (should) + bare infinitive
- studies sai vì đây là chia động từ theo ngôi thứ ba số ít (hiện tại đơn), không phải bare infinitive.
- Sửa: studies → study hoặc should study
Lỗi sai: B (studies) → Sửa: study / should study
Câu 4: The (A) sales assistant suggested that I (B) must choose a tablet (C) with a brighter (D) colour.
- Phân tích: suggested that I ___ → phải dùng should + bare infinitive (không dùng “must” trong cấu trúc này)
- must sai vì sau suggest + that + sb, chỉ dùng should hoặc bare infinitive, không dùng “must”.
- Sửa: must → should
Lỗi sai: B (must) → Sửa: should

- Phân tích: recommend ___ không có “that” → phải dùng V-ing
