Bài A Closer Look 2 Unit 11 “Science and Technology” Tiếng Anh lớp 8, tập trung vào điểm ngữ pháp quan trọng: Reported speech – Statements (Câu tường thuật – Câu trần thuật). I. Ngữ pháp: Reported Speech – Statements (Câu tường thuật – Câu trần thuật)
1. Reported speech là gì?
Reported speech (câu tường thuật) dùng để thuật lại lời nói của người khác. Khi chuyển từ lời nói trực tiếp sang tường thuật, ta cần thay đổi ba yếu tố: thì của động từ, đại từ, và trạng từ chỉ thời gian/nơi chốn.
Ví dụ:
- Direct: Mi said, “I want a new computer.”
- Reported: Mi said (that) she wanted a new computer.
2. Quy tắc lùi thì (Verb form changes)

Task 1: Look at part of the conversation in GETTING STARTED again. Then match Minh’s uncle’s direct speech with his reported speech.
Nhìn lại phần hội thoại ở Getting Started. Sau đó nối lời nói trực tiếp của chú Minh với lời tường thuật.
Lời Minh nói trong bài: “My uncle said the robots would be able to mark our work and give us feedback too.”
Lời nói trực tiếp (Direct speech):
- The robots will be able to mark our work.
- The robots will be able to give us feedback too.
Lời tường thuật (Reported speech): A. My uncle said the robots would be able to give us feedback too. B. My uncle said the robots would be able to mark our work.
Đáp án:

Giải thích: Khi chuyển sang reported speech, will → would. Nội dung còn lại giữ nguyên vì chủ ngữ và tân ngữ không thay đổi (chú Minh nói với Minh về robots).

Hoàn thành câu thứ hai bằng dạng động từ đúng.

Giải thích chi tiết:
1. Đáp án: was
- Direct: “I am a member of the IT club.”
- Reported: Minh said that he was a member of the IT club.
Quy tắc: am (hiện tại đơn) → was (quá khứ đơn). Đồng thời đổi đại từ: I → he.
2. Đáp án: would take
- Direct: “Mai will take an online course…”
- Reported: Nam said Mai would take an online course…
Quy tắc: will → would. Chủ ngữ “Mai” không đổi vì đã là ngôi thứ ba.
3. Đáp án: was talking
- Direct: “I am talking to Phong on the phone.”
- Reported: Tom said he was talking to Phong on the phone.
Quy tắc: am talking (hiện tại tiếp diễn) → was talking (quá khứ tiếp diễn). Đổi I → he.
4. Đáp án: were going
- Direct: “They are going to send me an email.”
- Reported: He said they were going to send him an email.
Quy tắc: are going → were going. Đổi me → him (vì người nói là nam).
5. Đáp án: didn’t have
- Direct: “I don’t have an iPod to listen to music.”
- Reported: She said that she didn’t have an iPod to listen to music.
Quy tắc: don’t have (hiện tại đơn phủ định) → didn’t have (quá khứ đơn phủ định). Đổi I → she.
Task 3: Complete the second sentences with the words and phrases from the box.
Hoàn thành câu thứ hai với từ và cụm từ trong khung.

Giải thích chi tiết:
1. Đáp án: the next day
- Direct: tomorrow (ngày mai) → Reported: the next day (ngày hôm sau).
- Mary nói “ngày mai” nhưng khi tường thuật lại, “ngày mai” trở thành “ngày hôm sau”.
2. Đáp án: then
- Direct: now (bây giờ) → Reported: then (lúc đó).
- Tom nói “bây giờ” nhưng khi tường thuật, “bây giờ” trở thành “lúc đó”.
3. Đáp án: that day
- Direct: today (hôm nay) → Reported: that day (ngày hôm đó).
- Giáo viên nói “hôm nay” nhưng khi tường thuật, “hôm nay” trở thành “ngày hôm đó”.
4. Đáp án: that year
- Direct: this year (năm nay) → Reported: that year (năm đó).
- Mẹ nói “năm nay” nhưng khi tường thuật, “năm nay” trở thành “năm đó”.
5. Đáp án: there
- Direct: here (ở đây) → Reported: there (ở đó).
- Mi nói “ở đây” nhưng khi tường thuật, “ở đây” trở thành “ở đó”.
Task 4: Complete the second sentence in each pair so that it means the same as the first one.
Hoàn thành câu thứ hai trong mỗi cặp sao cho nghĩa giống câu đầu.
1. “We will live much longer in the future,” said the scientist.
→ The scientist said that we would live much longer in the future.
Giải thích: will → would. “In the future” không đổi vì không phải trạng từ chỉ thời gian cụ thể.
Dịch: Nhà khoa học nói rằng chúng ta sẽ sống lâu hơn nhiều trong tương lai.
2. “Our school is going to have a new laboratory here,” said our teacher.
→ Our teacher said that our school was going to have a new laboratory there.
Giải thích: is going to → was going to. here → there.
Dịch: Giáo viên nói rằng trường chúng tôi sẽ có một phòng thí nghiệm mới ở đó.
3. “They are developing technology to monitor students better,” my dad said.
→ My dad said that they were developing technology to monitor students better.
Giải thích: are developing (hiện tại tiếp diễn) → were developing (quá khứ tiếp diễn).
Dịch: Bố tôi nói rằng họ đang phát triển công nghệ để giám sát học sinh tốt hơn.
4. “There are no classes tomorrow because our teacher is ill,” Tom said.
→ Tom said that there were no classes the next day because their teacher was ill.
Giải thích: are → were. tomorrow → the next day. our → their. is → was.
Dịch: Tom nói rằng không có lớp học vào ngày hôm sau vì giáo viên của họ bị ốm.
5. “We want some students to join the science club next semester,” the teacher said.
→ The teacher said that they wanted some students to join the science club the next semester.
Giải thích: want → wanted. we → they. next semester → the next semester.
Dịch: Giáo viên nói rằng họ muốn một số học sinh tham gia câu lạc bộ khoa học vào học kỳ tới.
Task 5: GAME – He / She said that…
Làm việc theo cặp. Một học sinh nói một câu trực tiếp, học sinh còn lại chuyển câu đó sang câu tường thuật. Sau đó đổi vai.
